European CSDs appoint Anna Kulik as new Secretary General

In May 2017, in its twentieth anniversary year, the European Central Securities Depositories Association (ECSDA) appointed Anna Kulik as Secretary General. Ms Kulik takes over the role with immediate effect, following Soraya Belghazi, and will be the new face of the 41 European CSDs, established in 37 European countries, that ECSDA represent.

As a lawyer with Masters degrees in both European Law, and in Law and Economics, Ms Kulik has extensive expertise in post trade and European public affairs. Prior to joining ECSDA, she had a nine year career with Euroclear, holding various roles including outsourcing and operating risk, plus Strategy and Government Relations.

Ms Kulik has also lectured on financial regulation at the Shanghai University Law School, and has also worked in the European Parliament.
As ECSDA’s main spokesperson, Ms Kulik will represent the industry and help European CSDs develop common solutions to address a wide range of regulatory, technological and business challenges in an increasingly competitive post trade environment.

Commenting on the appointment of Ms Kulik, Mathias Papenfuβ, ECSDA Chairman and Member of the Executive Board of Clearstream, stated:

“We are pleased to welcome Anna Kulik as our new Secretary General. The Association’s previous head, Soraya Belghazi, has laid a very good basis for the association to be a trusted partner towards the European institutions. Over the past few years, we have seen many exciting developments such as the implementation of the first EU-wide regulation on CSDs and the launch of the first pan-European platform for settling securities in central bank money.
…[with] the new challenges such as FinTech now emerging, Anna will be a great leader to help ECSDA navigate through these challenges… her expertise and personal qualities make her the ideal person to represent European CSDs.”
